Christine Malèvre, who was practicing at the Mantes-la-Jolie hospital as a nurse, was tried for deliberately causing the death of six patients.
The Facts
She is accused of having, between February 1997 and May 1998, performed the euthanasia of six patients placed in palliative care 1 ‘ 2 .
During the first interrogations, she said in her defense that they would have asked her to help them die. This version was challenged by the families of the victims. Some of them said that some of the victims were about to return from the hospital or were on their way to recovery and did not seem to want to die. Finally, they stressed that none of the victims had spoken to anyone about the desire to die and that Christine Malèvre was the only one to have been warned.
The condemnation
She was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 92,910 euros for damages theFor 6 murders. She is appealing against this conviction. She is acquitted for the murder of Denise Le Maout. The public prosecutor is appealing for this acquittal.
The second judgment, the , Extended his sentence to 12 years’ imprisonment 3 , 4 , 5 . While awaiting the appeal, she is being held in custody, which her relatives and supporters are challenging, notably in the name of the right to the presumption of innocence and on the grounds that her release would in no way undermine public order .
The journalists whose Laurent Ruquier took position in its favor before it is judged as a result of publication of a book written by Christine Malèvre telling his story. However, the majority of them retracted after the revelation during the trial that some of the victims did not want to die.
