Franco Cavalli

Franco Cavalli , born on 3 July 1942 in Locarno in Switzerland , is a medical oncologist Swiss world-renowned cancer researcher and politician member of the Social Democratic Party (SP).

Franco Cavalli is the head of oncology at the Hospital de Bellinzona and a professor at the Universities of Berne and Varese .

Between 2001 and 2004 , he was President of the League against Cancer in Switzerland and since 2003 he is Director of the Institute of Oncology of Italian-speaking Switzerland (IOSI) in Bellinzona. In 2006 , he became President of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC). He is considered one of the most renowned cancer researchers in Switzerland.

He was a national councilor of the Social Democratic Party and was a Marxist militant . He was elected to the Swiss National Council from the canton of Ticino from 1995 to 2007.

He is interested in the fate of cancer patients in the Third World, and stigmatizes the weight of the American pharmaceutical industry ¹ .

It calls for decriminalization of active euthanasia ² .

He is a member of the sponsorship committee of the Russell Tribunal on Palestine, which began on March 4, 2009.
