Sofia D’Souza ( Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ), is her charming nurse who has accompanied her as a shadow for the past twelve years, having left her dominating husband. Ethan’s life revolves around Sofia and they share a silent silent love that is both beautiful and spirited.
However, on the fourteenth anniversary of his accident, Ethan decides to take matters into his own hands and file an appeal before the court for euthanasia. This leaves Sofia in a stalemate and challenges their relationship and love. Ethan gets help from his best friend and lawyer Devyani Dutta (Shernaz Patel) in support of his claim. Devyani, hesitates at first, but later, understands Ethan’s request, accepts her reasoning and decides to support her cause, following which she is denounced as cruel by others. Surprising everyone with his attitude, Ethan’s mother, Isabel Mascarenhas (Nafisa Ali) also supports his son’s request. Although Ethan’s physician, Dr. Nayak (Suhel Seth), a neurologist, tries to persuade him to reverse his decision, he finally convinces himself when he realizes that the friend in him is much stronger than doctor.
On the other hand, a young man named Omar Siddiqui (Aditya Roy Kapoor) enters the life of Ethan for the sole purpose of learning the magic of this man whom he considers the greatest magician. Omar is serious and motivated by a passion to learn magic, is hyperactive and very keen in his actions - an opposition to Ethan’s inertia. Impressed by his love for magic, Ethan agrees to pass on his legacy to Omar even though he has to fight tooth and nail to claim the most basic right of his own life. The ethics, morals, cruelty and kindness of Ethan’s mission each strike a whirlwind of emotions ranging from rage to sadness.
