The book offers a review of academic texts in English on what Goldhagen contends is anti-Semitism throughout the history of the Church , which would have contributed substantially to the persecution of Jews during World War II . In addition, it recommends several important measures that could be taken by the Church to repair the damage caused by its alleged participation. The work received mixed reviews and was the subject of considerable controversy regarding accusations of inaccuracies and anti- Catholic prejudices . 1
