It portrays the situation of Jewish refugees after the Second World War that contributed to the creation of the State of Israel . The documentary emphasizes the deplorable conditions that Jews in Europe had suffered after the war, where anti- Semitism continued to wreak havoc and poverty was common. It also shows how emigration to the British Mandate of Palestine became the target of many, but British immigration laws led many to end up detained in camps in Cyprus . The formation of the State of Israel is shown, as well as the debates in the White House among Palestinian Jews, President Harry S. Truman and the United Nations .
